The Egyptian American Society released a letter and a policy statement on behalf of Egyptian Americans (Christian and Muslim) to President Obama yesterday. The letter and the policy statement are authored by renowned law professor Cherif Bassiouni of De Paul University's Law School.
Professor Bassiouni's letter to President Obama is excellent. It politely, succinctly and forcefully states the current state of U.S. foreign policy towards the Middle East. Okay, it is slightly edgy but that's something that is needed. Personally, I welcome this approach.
Here's the text:
Unfortunately our leaders don't seem to get it. Apparently Vice President Biden went on the record as saying Mubarak does not have to resign and then went even further to suggest that Mubarak is not a dictator.
I thought Joe Biden was smart enough to be able to understand that rigged elections and titles are not enough to make for a democracy or any form of free society. Okay, so maybe he is smart enough to know better. So, does that mean that he thinks we, the American public, is dumb enough to be duped by this comment?
America needs to get on the side of the Egyptian people before we look even dumber and lose even more credibility.
