I ran across a blog yesterday. It is called "The Right Scoop". They posted something about President Obama's Iftar dinner at the White House earlier this week. The writer - Dan Cleary - claimed that President Obama got it wrong when he said Islam has been a part of America for a very long time. The writer also claimed that President Obama was blurring the lines between Christianity and other, non-Christian, religions.
I went further down to look at the discussion. Lo and Behold! There were some Islamophobic rants brewing. Like what, you ask? Here are some examples:
Here is another:
And another:
Not exactly the most thoughtful comments, right?
I decided that I would add to the discussion. Here's what I wrote in the comments section:
Was that such a bad comment? That last line was a bit of shot - a variation of love it or leave it - but hardly as offensive as the other stuff.
I got a bunch of responses (to which I replied). And then I was banned. Doh!
Here are a few of the exchanges:
I should have recognized that I was dialoguing with religious extremists. Afterall, the author of the post felt compelled to distinguish between Christianity and all other faiths even as to the most basic, broad principles.
Here is part of another exchange:
It was okay for the "regulars" to be as negative as they pleased, but they didn't take too kindly to turn-about:
My comment about "can't export me" was a response to another comment suggesting that America "export" Muslims out of America.
The editor/owner didn't like what I was saying and banned me:
Okay then! Carry on with your diatribes. No need to engage in thoughtful discussion...
Given the crap that's allowed on that blog I think a name change is in order. How about this:
With all the s#!t those folks drone on about, this seems quite appropriate.

Congrats! I was just banned by "The Right Scoop". I'm not sure if my ban was for supporting Ron Paul or defending Muslims. "Scoop" loves radio host Mark Levin and posted an audio clip of Levin excoriating Ron Paul for his foreign policy. Here's part of the back-and-forth I had with a poster who was using the Beslan massacre as a reason for us to murder as many Muslims in America's name as possible:

You didn't answer my question about Beslan. What do you think would make grown men target a school and then deliberately kill the children? Don't forget, at the end of the siege, the hostage takers deliberately aimed their guns at the backs of little kids running for their lives and pulled the trigger.
Why would someone do something like that? Was there no other target they could have picked to make their point? No army barracks? No police station? No town hall or government offices they could have used to fight the "occupation" and "oppression" and "aggression" they felt they needed to fight?
They picked a school and then killed as many kids as they could before they were captured or killed themselves.
Why do you think someone would do something like that?

OK Jaynie, I'll play your game - what do you think of this?

Excerpts:
"A U.S. diplomatic cable made public by WikiLeaks suggests that U.S. troops executed at least 10 Iraqi civilians, including a woman in her 70s and a 5-month-old infant, then called in an airstrike to destroy the evidence, during a controversial 2006 incident in the central Iraqi town of Ishaqi.
U.S. officials denied at the time that anything inappropriate had occurred.
But Philip Alston, the UN’s special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, said in a communication to American officials dated 12 days after the March 15, 2006, incident that autopsies performed in the Iraqi city of Tikrit showed that all the dead had been handcuffed and shot in the head. Among the dead were four women and five children. The children were all 5 years old or younger."
What happened in Beslan is tragic and the act of cowards. There is no excuse for it. However, what happened in Ishaqi was equally cowardly, and was done by our country in your and my names. That disgusts me to a far greater degree.
There are over 1 million dead in the Middle East due to our endless wars. Hundreds of thousands of the dead are innocents. That is blood on all our hands. Is it any surprise that many of these people will do anything in their power to exact revenge?
What would Jesus do? One thing about Levin - he is certainly not a Christian. He spews hatred. The only time I've ever heard him express compassion was over the death of his dog. Dead children in the Middle East do not affect him, or apparently you, at all.
So now I'm gone. There is a certain echochamber - Foxnews/RushLimbaugh/SeanHannity/MarkLevin and a bunch of websites like Hotair and RightScoop. As you correctly noted, they will not allow competing ideas.
